Canada Room Covid-19 FAQ’s


  1. What will the hours of operation be for a return to campus?

Hours will remain as in the past, 7:30am to 9:00pm with breakfast served from 7:30am-9:30am, lunch 11:30am 3:00pm and dinner 5:00pm–7:30pm.


  1. Will there be dine-in options for meals?

As the City of Toronto moves to stage 3, the Canada Room will offer limited, dine-in seating for up to 45 people, as we need to include our staff in a maximum of 50 persons. As stages change, this option is re-visited. Table tents will be placed on the tables to encourage maximum seating of 20 minutes to allow others to dine in as well.


  1. Can I take my meal out of the Canada Room?

Yes. If the seating area has reached capacity at any given meal period, you will be able to take out your meal and eat other locations on campus.


  1. Will I be required to wear a mask in the Canada Room?

Yes. You will need to don a mask while in the service areas but can remove the mask if you are seated to eat in the Canada Room.


  1. Will there be social distancing measures in place?

Yes. Starting at the base of the stairs leading up to the Canada room, directional flow decals and foot dots will be placed to help guide you through the process of entering and swiping your meal plan, travelling through the servery, dining hall, dish return and exit.


  1. Will Kelly Café be open in September?

No. The Kelly Café will be closed until further notice. The Canada Room will offer a small retail kiosk for confectionery and beverages.


  1. Will there be food options between the main meal periods?

Yes. As in past years soup, salad, sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, snacks & beverages will be available throughout the day.


  1. Will there be self-serve stations in the Canada Room?

No. all self-serve stations will be disabled and will offer individual packed options only. Our associates will serve all stations even beverages. For social distancing measures, the Grill station will be closed but similar menu offerings will be available at one of our other stations.


  1. Will “My Pantry” be open?

No. My Pantry, for safety measures, will be closed but will operate as a handwashing station and will be merchandised with pre-packed menu offerings such as whole fruit, salads, condiments, snacks, yogurt, pastries, muffins etc.


  1. Will Canada Room still offer “All You Care to Eat”?

Provided the information in these FAQ’s we are not limiting students to what they can eat but given that in dining is not 100% confirmed, it is encouraged you take what you need to fulfill you until the next meal period. You are able to return after you have taken your dine-out meal, but we encourage you to keep this at a minimum as we need to provide ample space for all students.


  1. Will there be hand-sanitizing stations available?

Yes. There will be one located upon entry, a handwashing station available at My Pantry and sanitizing stations available upon exit.
